Walking on the Edge

Walking on the Edge

I’m walking on the edge, but it’s not what you think. I’m not about to fall off for I am safe here. As a matter of fact, the edge is my happy place. Let me explain.

First of all, the ‘edge’ of my day is the very same as the ‘margin’ of my day; the two words are interchangeable. I must protect the margin around my day for it really belongs to God. I can’t live my life eating up every minute of the day with busyness and squeeze time with God off my page. My daily time with God in prayer, worship, and Bible study is too valuable, so I must erect guard rails to shield it from less important activities. This exercise begins as discipline and soon becomes a delight. Many blessings reside in the margin/edge of my day that I do not wish to forfeit, such as…

“When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the Lord your God” (Lev. 23:22). In other words, the edges or margins of your day and life are His. It’s in the edges that God reveals to you who and how to SERVE.

“Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing…So the people crossed over opposite Jericho” (Joshua 3:15-16). The edge is where your MIRACLE will happen.

“‘Watch me,’ he told them. ‘Follow my lead. When I get to the edge of the camp, do exactly as I do’” (Judges 7:17). God has something to show you in the edges of your day – His power and strength – as you obey and stand in His presence like Gideon and his ragtag army did. They stood on the edge and watched God conquer the enemy in VICTORY.

“If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success” (Eccl. 10:10). Sharpen your edge with His WISDOM while in your margin.

“People brought all their sick to him and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed” (Matthew 14:35-36). HEALING awaits you in the edge.

“Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge” (Mark 4:1). Don’t miss a valuable TEACHING MOMENT.

The edge is where we meet with Almighty God. As we pray and listen to Him, He shows us how to better serve Him by serving others. Miracles that only God can do will happen in our lives. As we obey and do our part, He gives us victory over the enemy. When life is difficult, He gives us wisdom. When we reach out and touch Him, He heals us. And Jesus has so much He wants to teach us. Do we take the time to listen?

Yes, I am walking on the edge and loving every minute! I want to know the Lord better, and I don’t want to miss anything He has for me. God is so good! If you want to learn more about walking on the edge and building healthy margins into your life, I encourage you to get a copy of Marginalysis.
