More of Jesus–There’s Nothing Better!
There’s nothing better in this whole wide world than more of Jesus! Having more of Him is better than material wealth, physical healing, fixing all my problems, and yes, even my comfort.
“How so?” I’m glad you asked.
You see, Jesus is my very best Friend. I enjoy spending time with Him and getting to know Him. Whenever I make a new earthly friend, I must spend quality one-on-one time with that new friend to really know who they are—how they think, what they’re passionate about, their character and personality. There is no other way to know if this friendship is worth my time and energy.
Jesus is worth my time, energy, and investment. He is worthy of all my love and devotion. I used to draw close to Him in order to ask and receive something from Him. Now, that in itself is not wrong. He wants us to ask, seek, and knock (Matthew 7:7-8). But I have learned over the years that He doesn’t always give us everything we think we need. Instead, He gives us more of Himself, and He is always enough. He is who I need, more than anyone or anything else.
Therefore, I will spend time with Him in prayer (talking to Him) and time reading and meditating on His Word (listening to Him). When I do that, I begin to know Him better, who He is, what He has done for me, what He requires of me, and His plans for my life. Receiving more of Jesus in my life means more of His grace and truth (John 1:14), new life, joy, peace, and hope, because He is all those things. These are His true riches in glory that He so generously showers on me when I spend time with Him. What a beautiful exchange! I give Him my sin, cares, anxieties, frustrations, loneliness, and pain, and He gives me more of Himself!
I love the story of the woman at the well in John chapter four. Jesus loved her and offered her living water (more of Him) three times (verses 10, 14, 26) in the middle of her sin and need. “Then Jesus declared, ‘I, the one speaking to you—I am he.’”
Life’s struggles, heartaches, and battles are meant to woo us closer to the Savior. Instead, we want answers to our prayers, and we want them now! All the while, Jesus wants to give us more of Him, because ultimately He is the answer to our prayers.
His well of living water is deep and will never run dry. I refuse to be satisfied with a few sips, but I wish to eagerly gulp His living water. He will forever be more than enough for me. I will return to the well often, because there’s nothing better in this whole wide world than more of Jesus!
