In Order According to Plan
I respect when things are done in order according to plan. The opposite can be ridiculous, haphazard, and even dangerous.
“Now, son of man, take a sharp sword and use it as a barber’s razor to shave your head and your beard” (Ezek. 5:1). This is exactly why I don’t recommend closing your eyes, opening your Bible at random, and putting your finger on a Scripture and declaring, “This is the word of the Lord for me today!” Your finger just might land on Ezekiel 5:1!
I must approach God’s Word systematically, because God is a God of order and planning; nothing happens by chance in God’s world. God had a plan and an order for creation and a plan for Israel. He has a plan for our salvation, a plan for marriage and family, and a plan how to live life (called the Ten Commandments). He had a plan for the temple; and He is planning and preparing my home in heaven, perfect for me, made to order, and will be ready and waiting the day I step into heaven. He has a plan for the End Times and a plan to banish Satan and all evil from the earth forever.
It’s good to follow a reading or study plan of the Bible to learn the full counsel of God. This helps protect us from pulling Scripture out of context and falling into error, which is one of Satan’s many traps. It takes more discipline and perseverance to follow a daily plan and read the Bible completely through; however, these are great qualities we should develop in our lives. “But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way” (1 Cor. 14:40).
